@hwittenborn I think I've solved the issue. The PKGBUILD _base_depends has libappindicator1 in it, whereas it should only be in depends: at least, on a clean Debian Bullseye VM, it worked.

I would submit a commit to the PKGBUILD but I'm not sure how, sorry.

@hwittenborn bullseye is the output. Yes I will join the support room if that'd be better.

@Closey Would you be able to post the output of lsb_release -cs on your system? I'm suspecting something there is a problem.

If the issue still persists (and it's feasible on your part), would you be able to join makedeb's support rooms so the issue could be further diagnosed?

If you were asking where --distro-packages is inside of makedeb's source code, you can find it at src/functions/ (though the option doesn't currently do anything; you should get the same result with or without it).

$ git clone
$ cd discord
$ makedeb --distro-packages -si
==> WARNING: '--distro-packages' has been deprecated, and should not be used.

I tried a few variations of that syntax with other arguments but this is always the error. Looking through the repo I couldn't find where --distro-packages was.

@Closey what exactly didn't work?

Closey commented on 2021-09-01 10:43

@hwittenborn Just been able to test that, and unfortunately didn't play ball. Instead I just removed all references to libappindicator1 in the PKGBUILD and it works like a charm.

@Closey The package should work just fine on Bullseye now (use makedeb --distro-packages to enable the Bullseye dependencies when on a Bullseye system).

Just thought I'd make an account to say that libappindicator1 is in a weird state of being. It isn't on stable (Bullseye; as of 2021-8-16), and from what I can tell from the bug reports, is supposed to be deprecated 1. So I think this PKGBUILD will only work on Debian-10 (or lower) or -Sid. A Redittor 3 has produced a guide for installing on Bullseye with the new packages.

Please ignore me if I'm missing something, fairly new to the whole mpr but I think it's a great project.
